The author, Lucia Graves, provides a brief introduction into the virtual world of Second Life and how it is being used in classrooms across college classrooms. Graves reports how educators are finding Second Life as an effective teaching tool because it provides a social laboratory where role-playing, simulations, exploration, and experimentation can be tried out in a relatively risk-free environment. However, classroom interactions are rather limited and in the case of classroom settings, it is difficult to decipher student and teacher body language.
